The London Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is the responsible for the prototype of the new Olympic torch, and finally Wednesday, June 8, 2011 presented the prototype of the torch for the 2012 Olympics in London, which will be delivered by 8000 motivated torchbearers.
The meter relay will start May 19, 2012 from Land's End, in Cornwall, and will touch the entire Great Britain before to culminate in the opening day of the Olympic Games, July 27, 2012. The firsts 74 steps of the tour were approved. There are about 12,800 miles and 8,000 torchbearers who will pass the torch across all regions and in the major Britain cities.
The first stop will be the Land's End (the extreme southwestern tip of England), followed by all regions and major cities in the United Kingdom, including the islands (Isle of Man, Guernsey, Jersey, Shetland, Orkney and Isle of Lewis).
From Bristol to Liverpool, including Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Manchester, Sheffield, Nottingham, Oxford, Southampton and Dover.
The torch, created by london artists, Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, will be present next June and will run through the streets of the country for 12 hours a day. The chairman of the organizing committee, Sebastan Coe, said: "I saw the meter relay of the Olympic flame around the world and we must be able to replicate the joy and the emotions, wherever it stops, it must be able to create a moment of celebration for local communities and inspire young people to play sports".
